Animal Testing

Think of yourself locked away in a dark cage, sleeping on metal crates. The air is thin and cold with the smell of chemicals. You have no control over your life. You do not get the choice to eat what you want, have a normal life, have children, a soul mate, or how to spend your time. Every time someone walks back you shake in pain, closing your eyes wishing it was not you. Then you are taken away either to be tortured with pain or left to die. Millions of animals are forced to live their life like that. Speak up and support banning animal testing. If you do not want to live a life like this, neither do animals.

All countries have wasted millions of money and lives just to perform a experiment that can be done a safer way. It is shocking to hear that, about 50-100 million animals that are dying each week from animal testing. Animals are tested on cleaning products, soap, shampoos, lotion, make up, house hold products, and just for intriguing experiments. Animals are suffering day by day by the fear and pain that scientist hold on them. In the lavatories animals are treated with cruelty. There are less expensive ways to test chemical products that do not harm living animals. You would think since it is less expensive, why not do it? But companies relay on their results with animals and refuse to change their ways.

There are thousands of animal testing organizations that are against it. Join an organization and help protect animal lives!

Controversy of Cosmetics and Animal Testing

The practice of cosmetic testing is controversial because animals may experience different pain and discomfort and the different skin reactions of an animal to human.

In an article i have read about animal testing with cosmetics it sides with it improving human health and the extension of human life. Within cosmetic testing, they are fully aware of the side effects towards animals. Thus testing the cosmetic chemicals are enhancing a humans beings beauty and healthier life. Companies point out the benefits that have a positive outcome from animal testing. 1. Companies believe that it is protecting the human health and safety. They test it on animals first so that the product is safe for humans to use. By testing it on animals first they are proving that the product is safer for the human health. 2. Another reason why cosmetic companies use animal testing to remain a competitive edge over all the other cosmetics companies. 3. Out of all the alternative ways to test chemicals, cosmetic companies believe that animal testing is the most reliable and safest environment.

The benefits of animal testing in a cosmetic company, are not always accurate. Using a non-animal test methods are more reliable and cheaper. The non-animal testing is created on a advanced technology computer and has different models to recreate cells, skin tissues, and corneas from the eye. These test are more accurate because it is using the replica of human skin. Animal testing is inhuman but it is incredibly inaccurate. The cosmetic test do not show a results of human health hazards, but only proves how toxic the product is to an animal. Human beings do not have the same skin, cells, or tissues as an any other animal. Due to having different features and reactions an animal test does not show the accurate results on human.

Animals have rights too!

Human rights and animal rights might seem antithetical. Animals are a living organism on this planet just like humans. You might not believe that we are just like animals, but we are.

Humans have the right to say no. Humans have the right: a man's right to his own life. Humans have the right to make their own choices. Humans have the right to think and not do something by physical force.Humans right to feel pain and to not. Humans have the right to have a voice. Humans have the right to live. Humans are just another species of animals. Take a chimpanzee for example. Humans are so similar in the body for, brain, features, and actions. These same animals are being treated cruel, tested on, without a say. Put yourself in the animal's shoes. If you were them, would you like if if you were being tested on everyday? Treated horrible? Toxic chemicals injected/poured on you? living in fear? Slowly dying? These animals are dealing with pain that any human can feel.

Animals do have the right to live to its own life. Animals do have the right to make own decisions. Animals do have the right to think. Animals do have the right to feel pain. Animals do have a right to live. Just because humans are bigger and stronger does not mean we are allowed to control animal lives, and make decisions for them. Animals have rights as well and they shouldn’t be violated. No one would ever want to go through animal testing, so why make them go through it?

Putting Down the Law

It is scary to think that animal testing occurs in our own country. Just within the United Stats alone, captures millions of animals for experimental test. The United States has a large part of a regulation process that is governed by the Animal Welfare Act. The Animal Welfare Act is to ensure that animals that are used for research are given a high standard of care and treatment. The suffering towards the animals should be minimal. But due to the dangerous experiments that are performed, suffering a secondary goal, because it is part of the process. The Animal Welfare Act's regulations are only relevant to mammals leaving out birds, rats and mice. The immediate care for the animals used in experiments is monitored by Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees.

While the United States is putting forth an effort of regulating and being more cautious about animal testing, other countries are coming up with more animal testing programs. In the year of 2007, the European Union came out with a new chemical-testing strategy for animals. This strategy is most likely to kill millions of needless animals in a cruel and outdated toxic test. The European Union's strategy works by starting off with 30,000 similar chemicals that are injected to a wide range of animals. In Europe these new strategies remain and more are being developed.
PETA works with animals by trying to stop animal testing all around the world. When this new strategy was developed, PETA and other animal organizations set a final law that is less destructive to these animals.

All around the world, whether it is your country or another, organizations and programs are trying to make a difference and stop animal testing. It might not even be possible to stop animal testing alone, but by setting laws and rules it can help the animals from fear and severe suffering.

Save Money

Every single year in the United States, 70 million animals are blinded, maimed, scalded, force-fed chemicals, genetically manipulated, or killed.  The United States use approximately 100 million cats and 54 million dogs. Between 10.1 and 16.7 million dogs and cats are put to sleep. Approximately 17-22 million animals are used in research. Mice and rats are 85-90% used in experiments. These numbers are unbelievable high. Animal testing and experiments is the most popular way companies use to develop their products. These numbers are high because, companies choose this way because there are millions of animals out there. But by using animal testing it can be very expensive. Paying for a lab to perform animal testing can cost you, roughly between $10000-$75000. This is extremely expensive and unreasonable to be destroying animal lives when there is other ways.

It was finally proven that there are alternative way that seem more humane, reliable, and less expensive. Instead of companies using million animals for hundreds of test, there are other ways that the product can be tested. Even alternative ways are less expensive; it pays off even more when your saving a life. For example a company can use:
-Chemical assay test
-Tissue culture systems
-Cell and organ cultures
-Cloned human skin cells
-Human skin patches
-Computer and mathematical models

The companies that do not use animal testing refer to these alternative options. Companies that use the secondary methods are saving animal lives, and saving money. By just using animals for a use of testing is wasting money and wasting lives. Why spend all the money, when a company can save and save a life?
Finding Alternatives to Animal Testing

Animal Testing Can Safe a Life

Every day, millions of people are saved from death and diseases by medical drugs. Medicine is a gift to humans that would not be possible without the use of animal testing. In an article I have read about, a young boy's life that had been saved, by a series of animal testing.  "A Young boy, Johnny Auquilino, was born without the left ventricle of his heart, the major pumping chamber.  His life was saved by a series of new techniques first developed on animals. Animal research will be involved in the search for a cure for the most deadly diseases." For those who use animal testing, think that is less inhumane to test on animals than it is to test new drugs on children or adults. It is easier to test new drugs on animals because it is easier to bread. Unlike humans, it would take much longer to see potential effects, because of the great length of time we live compared to animals. The more animals they have the more experiments and tries a scientist has and the more people are saved.

Despite these overwhelming benefits, however, some people are calling for animal testing to be banned because of alleged cruelty.

However in recent years, animal testing has been attacked. Many humans claim that animals have an equal right as humans. By reaching out to try and stop animal testing, people have reached some associations that are willing to revise their animal testing. The American Heart Association is cautious about how they treat the animals during testing. There are a set of laws within this association when it comes to funded experiments. The animals are required to be handled responsibly and humanly. Before any of these associations are being approved for testing the researched must follow:

    • they have looked at alternative methods to using animals;
    • their research cannot be successfully conducted without the use of animals;
    • their experiments are designed to produce needed results and information.

By making a compromise between pro animal testing and non animal testing, it has come along as a better satisfactory. A satisfactory between humans being able to have their life saved and animals not having to go through cruelty. With organizations that are handling animals responsively, it has identified and supported the policies that are appropriate use for animals in biomedical research.

Government Founding Tax Payments Towards Animal Testing

Everyone has used a type of medication, whether it was Advil or severe medical medications. Doctors prescribe pills and medicine to help the patient ease pain and become healthier. The drugs and medicine go through tons of processes to make sure that the drug will cure a specific cause. Us, patients, trust our doctors and the over the counter medicines, because we are told that it is safe and will cure us. The medicines are safe and non-harmful to humans because of testing medicine on animals first.  Multiple universities and hospitals also imprison millions of animals to use in their experiments. The animals that are kept in hospitals are used for painful, deadly medical training exercises and curiosity-driven experiments.

Millions of hospitals and universities perform animal testing, to be able to make sure medications are safe. The government is allowing the hospital to do this by the fund of tax dollars and health charities.

The government allows companies and especially hospitals to use animal testing for our use of using safe products. The government tests kill more than 2,000 animals every time they are conducted. But the government does not know that a single one of the animal test has been proven to be formally relevant to predict human health effects. Although this statement proves that the government is pro animal testing, "Government regulations still require chemical manufacturers to squirt burning chemicals into rabbits' eyes and onto their shaved skin."

All the medication that people are buying are tested on animals. The government relies on the animal testing to prove that it is making it safe for us, but it really is not. The taxes that you pay for towards health charities are really going towards animal testing...how does that make you feel?

    Is it Safe?

Safe: secure from liability to harm, injury, danger, or risk

As your walking down the isle to pick out what shampoo or body wash that suits the you best, you pick the one that smells good, looks pretty, and catches your eye. But for most new mothers, they pick out what is most safe for their babies. Instead of searching for the shampoo that smells the best, she is searching for the one that has a label on it saying, "Safe for your child." For example, Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo, states that is is safe your baby's skin, but the background behind the labels it is not safe at all.

Those shampoo bottles that advertise that it is safe for your skin is only contradicting what they are doing. The products use the word safe to make the consumers believe that its good for you. But behind the label, the product is not safe at all. Before selling it out to you, it is tested on animals. The bottle says it is safe, when animals are developing skin irritations. It says it is safe, when animals are expose to toxic chemicals. It says it is safe, when animals are getting sick. It says it is safe, when animals are dying. Does that sound safe to you?

    Neutrogena:
On Neutrogena's website they are promoting safe body products. I have found that they stated, "As the Neutrogena® brand gained a unique acceptance by the medical profession, a new emphasis was directed toward marketing and research efforts to create a line of safe, mild, premium quality skincare products." There is the word, safe, again. The company is pro animal testing. Behind their research and medical labs, the products they are selling are not safe until after the fact that they destroyed animal's lives. Even adult products are advertised as safe, but behind the labels it is not safe.
